We had a great experience renting with SIXT in Germany. We picked up the car in Lindau and it went smoothly. The agent was friendly and professional and the car was as expected. Driving in Germany was fun - except for the occasional construction traffic which added 1-2 hours of driving to our route more than once. We dropped off the car at the Berlin Central Station and made the mistake of assuming the Google location would be the drop off site - but it was the literal train station. I ended up having to run inside to ask where we needed to drop off the car and even after that it was a challenge to find. But other than that our experience was perfect and I would recommend renting with SIXT.

Got a replacement car easy and fast for our faulty one. Customer service representative was very polite and understanding.

I had a horrible experience here. First, they tried to charge me some windshield damages that never happened. When that didn't work out, they charged me an extra day for returning the car 1 hour 42 minutes late. I know, it's standard practice. But still: never again! SIXT showed to be really nice and correct - I got a voucher for the extra charge. I’m correcting this review to 4 stars. Thank you!

If you have an option to rent elsewhere do so! I was given a car that began to have mechanical issues the day after I picked it up. I called the assistance number and was told to bring the car in for an exchange. I arrive and no one is at the location and it’s business hours. I receive an email saying they had no cars available and I would not be able to exchange. I responded asking them to call me and till this day no one responded to my email to follow up. Keep in mind I was staying in Austria so they had me waste half a day and a lot of diesel driving around Germany for no reason. I called the customer service line again who sent me to 2 additional locations supposedly with cars available for exchange and I was also turned away. They wouldn’t even let me leave the car for a refund! And I spent a significant amount of time trying to get Sixt to assist with the issues I was having. I was stuck with a car that would not park without engaging the parking break. This in turn caused the car to be unlocked because it sensed it was not parked. The car stayed unlocked because even when you put the key in to manually lock it would not work. In addition to this you just had to hope the car didn’t roll away while parked! Smh I emailed customer service and received a generic “we received your email” but yet no response from them or this Sixt location I rented from. I’ve rented several cars and I’ve never delt with a company who could care less about its property. Update 10/03/2023: Despite the response from the location to email them SIXT hasn’t even responded to apologize for the issues nor responded to the email they requested I send to address it. They were swift to bill my credit card for the full rental price the same day I wrote the review though. Dreadful customer service.

***REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED, READ EDIT 2*** Extremely poor experience, right from pick up, was given a broken vehicle with a corner dented in, broken headlight (they did not want to record the damage until we insisted), vehicle had all sorts of issues during the rental that actually required road side assistance to be involved, and no one working at the location during office hours upon return. Not sure if this is all Sixt experience or just at this location (Lindau) but would not recommend in any way shape or form. Edit 1: It's been over a week since I've emailed Sixt customer support. Other than a "they are experiencing high volume" automated response, no acknowledgement of any of the issue. They owe us expenses on the repair + compensation. I'll be updating this every week until the issue is resolved. Edit 2: It took just over 2 weeks but their customer support team did finally get back to us. We are satisfied with their offer, they compensated us financially for the cost of repairs in addition to a make good amount for the poor service experience. We are satisfied with the resolution – wish we didn't have to do this to start with, but at least they resolved the issue.
